This Beloved Musical Explores Social Tension in the Early 1900s – Check Out Ragtime on Saturday

Musical Theater Heritage is an innovative and imaginative professional musical theater organization dedicated to the appreciation and historical understanding of the American musical theater and its contributions to our culture. It’s the one place that theatre enthusiasts can come together and enjoy the arts in Kansas City. This Saturday, Musical Theater Heritage will present the touching production of Ragtime. Don’t miss it!

Ragtime shows the intersection of three groups of people in the United States – African-Americans, upper-class suburbanites, and Eastern European immigrants – and the struggles each face as their worlds collide during the early years of the 1900s. This sweeping musical portrait of early-twentieth-century America tells the timeless story of these three families in the pursuit of the American Dream.

The Tony Award-winning score is just as diverse as the melting pot of America itself. A truly unique and powerful portrait of America, Ragtime is inspirational music that will live in your memory long after the curtain falls. This ensemble musical looks at the past and, in it, we see our present and the opportunities for our future.

Musical Theater Heritage (MTH) was founded in 1997 by George Harter as a vehicle to syndicate his nationally syndicated, award-winning radio show, “A Night on the Town.” In 2003, MTH began producing live shows on a loading dock at the historic Belger Arts Center in downtown Kansas City. In 2007, Crown Center approached MTH about producing shows in its newly constructed, 244 seat theater. Today, MTH operates as a fully professional Equity Theater welcoming nearly 50,000 people annually to Crown Center. MTH houses two theatrical stages, production facilities, studio space, and a public lobby.

Make plans now to see the enduring musical Ragtime on Saturday! There will be a pre-show talk, given by MTH Founder George Harter, that begins promptly 5 minutes before curtain.
